ELECTIONS 2009-2010

Fall greetings from the Panhandle!  I hope you were able to attend the conference in Sarasota; Chapter 296 continued FCEC’s tradition of excellence!  Great job….and many thanks to the wonderful volunteers who gave countless hours to planning and implementing such a great event.  The Florida Council for Exceptional Children has a national reputation of hosting THE BEST professional conferences in the nation…and the tradition continues.  Many thanks…and congratulations!

It is time to begin the process of electing officers for the upcoming year (2009-2010).  I urge you to consider “putting your name on the slate,” as it will be one of the most rewarding professional (and personal) experiences you’ll ever have.  You will have the opportunity to work with THE BEST in the field of special education while advocating for the students, families and professionals who work in special education.  Your time and your talents are needed.

Vice-President

This is a four-year commitment; don’t let that scare you.  It actually gives you an opportunity to learn the organization, at the state, national and international levels, and prior to taking on the President’s role.  It’s progressive…Vice-President, then President-Elect, then President, then Past President.  You “grow” with the organization in a leadership role.

FCEC has THE BEST Executive Board in the world…and I say that from personal experience.  Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork…you won’t have to worry about standing alone; you’ll always have an FCEC EB member on either side of you.

Please consider “putting your name on the slate”…I promise great rewards, for you AND our special needs students!

June M. Logue, Past President

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Now that the dust has settled and most of the checks have been received and bills paid, I must take this special opportunity as 2008 local conference chair to thank some people and companies who donated time, product, and/or money, allowing the 2008 FCEC Conference to exceed our hopes.

Mike Muldoon and Florida Inclusion Network-Mike and his wonderful group completely donated the sharp conference bags everyone filled to the brim. Mike, your continued generosity and dedication to quality instruction in Florida is amazing! You have done this often for other events and each time you make the bags totally fit the event.

Suzanne McLauchlin and Waterboy-Suzanne’s family business has sup-ported many of our local chapter’s fundraising events. This year they were especially helpful (and creative) by providing all the bottles of water used in the conference. Hopefully you noticed the conference logo on the label, and the special recognition on the T.O.Y. luncheon bottles.

Susan Hentz, local arrangements co-chair-Susan was my right arm for ideas and quick work and connections in Sarasota. She is our local chapter’s faculty advisor this year, as she teaches a course or 2 at USF Sarasota. Any-one who knows this ball of fire knows she always does quality work in what ever she endeavors to do. Thank you, Sue!!

Local Sunset Chapter #296, and especially Jamie Mastro (our president), Jan Wright (our treasurer), and Dixie Lee (our secretary) - Jamie was the brains and talent on the conference program of events. Dixie was the hardest working registration chair I have ever met, and Jan did a bang up job with her AV crew. The whole board stepped up and did their part and more. And, did-n’t MaryAlice and her crew do it right on the decorations and goodies? The popcorn machine was probably the best idea of all.

Liz, your program of speakers received many accolades. Thank you for being the class act you always are. Janet, you work so hard to make everything as special and professional as can be. What a wonderful group of professionals to have had the honor of working with from beginning to end.

Thank You!
