President's Message

Wow ! 2009 has flown by fast ! it has been a terrific year for the Florida CEC!

First, I want to offer thanks to all who attended the 63rd Annual State Conference in Daytona Beach October 8-10. We had a fantastic conference beginning with stellar pre-conference workshops followed by an incredible line up of keynote speakers, session presentations, poster displays and outstanding exhibits. Not to mention the parties… For me, the highlight of the weekend was our awards ceremony on Friday night. We awarded several chapter Presidents for their outstanding efforts in leading their chapters. We also had some of our best award recipients to date. Please join me in congratulating

Dr. Donald DeVito

the 2009 FCEC Marjorie Crick Teacher of the Year,

Alana Medlin

the 2009 CEC Dr. Jack R. Lamb Rookie Teacher of the Year, and

Dr. Jonathan C. McIntire and Dr. Eleanor C. Guetzloe

the 2009 Prestigious Landis M. Stetler Award winners.

I'd also like to provide a big thanks to the Volusia and Flagler CEC Chapters for hosting such a wonderful conference, and our fabulous exhibitors for their generous support. We look forward to seeing you next year (October 21-23, 2010) in beautiful Clearwater Beach. Start thinking now about whether you may be interested in putting together a presentation for the conference. The call for proposals will be coming out in a few months.

Finally, I want to encourage any interested people to take on more of leadership role within your local chapters or at the state level. Inside of this issue, you will find the call for nominations for secretary and vice president positions on the board. You will also find information on the 2010 leadership institute to be held June 25-26 at the beautiful Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys. This is a great opportunity for you to develop leadership skills and learn great information to take back to enhance your local chapters.

Thanks again for all you do to help serve children with exceptionalities in the state of Florida. I wish you all the best for 2010!

     Sincerely,

Dr. Elizabeth Cramer
