I get to now write my last letter as your FCEC
State President. I do so with much pride in being able to
have led and helped this wonderful group of educational
leaders do many beneficial and honorable things. I also do
so with anticipation of what the next years will bring when
I consider the people that are in line to be your next
leaders. I see Kim Pawling on the verge of being your
president, with Kelly Grillo, Jennifer Lesh, and
Heidi D’Ambrosio following soon in her footsteps. These
are exciting times, to be in a group managed by such
talented people. As these leaders bring about actions for
this organization, I will be excited for you to get to know
them and be as amazed as I am already with their levels of
knowledge, and their connections in the ESE and CEC world.
What they bring to this FCEC group makes the future very
bright for all of us.
The FCEC news most prominent in my mind starts
with the experiences at the
2012 National CEC Convention in Denver
last month. If you have never had the privilege of attending
one of these masterful arrangements of people and events, I
hope you all do consider putting it on your bucket list
right now. It is a “must do” event for those who love this
organization called CEC. I was most proud of the
announcement that
Hannah Ehrli,
one of our own educators, FCEC Board member, and mother of a
student with a disability in the state of Florida, was
chosen the CEC
National Teacher of the Year.
She represented us humbly and gracefully as she accepted her
award at the Opening Session and then spoke to the group of
gathered admirers at the TOY Brunch. Hannah will continue to
represent us well as she moves through her year representing
teachers and the needs of students. Please check out our
website for pictures of Hannah being celebrated.
Please also look for the pictures of our
4 yes, I Can!
award winners
this year from Florida. You will see a pose from
Chanel Torres, Nathaniel Ray, James
Starnes, and Brandon Drucker.
They too made Florida look so good. These students and their
families, along with the 60 or so other folks from Florida,
all stopped by the Flor’a-Cali Social to meet and greet and
celebrate accomplishments. The social was a special way to
wrap up the busy week of events. Thank you to everyone who
attended, and how about that yummy Sees Candy we were all
treated to!!
So what is ahead?
Leadership Conference
2012
-that’s what! You need to go. You need to send officers from
your chapter to this very basic but educational event. You
also need to know that after the event is concluded we are
still not done. With the conference ending at noon on
Saturday, we will move right into an exciting celebration
for our wonderful friend and FCEC Board Historian, Dr.
Landis Stetler. He has done so much for students and
educators alike, and has meant the world to those of us who
have known him long or short. He is our hero, and on June
16, he will be our Man of the Hour, as we raise a toast to
his efforts and his life as an ESE Expert. Please make plans
to attend the
Leadership Conference June 15-16 in Crystal River, FL.
Refer to the website for the registration form and more
information about this annual event.
So that is it, 2 years, 2 National CEC Teachers
of the Year, 3 Yes, I Can! Award winners in 2011 and 4 in
2012, plus several President’s Awards given for the
activities of active chapters in Florida. I could not ask
for more. I say
Thank you
to my helpful and learned FCEC Board. We have become good
friends and great partners. We have solved a mountain of
issues and worked ever so hard on 2 well attended and
appreciated state conferences. We are not done. It is just a
new chapter ahead and I am excited to be the supporter of it
all.
Sincerely,
Paula Evans,
Proud FCEC President 2010-2012
